14 Weeks - Hello 2nd Trimester!

Well, I've made it.  It's officially the 2nd Trimester of Nemo's stay with me.  Nemo is definitely making their presence known by popping out my belly more than I think they should.  I know I was a bit larger before getting pregnant, but seriously, I look a full 6 months pregnant!  Hoping the belly slows down some before I really start to expand!

SO Now to continue with my Lemon Week details:

This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his/her thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his/her facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His/her kidneys are producing urine, which he/she releases into the amniotic fluid around him/her — a process he/she'll keep up until birth. He/she can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him/her sucking his/her thumb.

In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he/she measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he/she weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His/her body's growing faster than his/her head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his/her arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his/her body. (His/her legs still have some lengthening to do.) He/she's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his/her body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his/her spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his/her tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.

How Far Along: 14 Weeks 2 Days

Total Weight Gain:  Haven't been to the Dr. yet for a more detailed weight, but I'm guessing overall loss still of about 3 or 4 lbs.

Best Moments This Week:  Starting to take a look at the things we will be needing as our delivery approaches.  We have almost conclusively decided to use cloth diapers and a diaper service (so long as there are no hidden fees and such) So getting everything lined up is definitely exciting.

Gender:  Still not sure, but Matt is hoping for a boy officially.  Haha, bets are being placed!

Movement:  None yet, I hope soon though! :)

Food Craving:  Peanut butter I'm finding sounds good any time...anything with peanut butter in it is just as great. :)  More to come soon I'm sure.

Sleep:  Falling asleep just fine, staying asleep is another story.

What I am Looking Forward To:  Same as last week: The flutters.  I am getting super excited to be able to feel Nemo moving around!

Symptoms:  Morning sickness has subsided a bit, but food aversions are very present.  I find that if I have to chew food for any length of time it turns my stomach and we have also discovered peas are not my friend at the moment. :)

Girl or Boy?!  Still pretty torn:

  • Baby's Heartbeat is >140, then it's a girl; if it's <140; it's a boy.
    • Girl from last Dr. appt.
  • Acne: If it gets worse during the pregnancy, it's a girl; if it stays the same or gets better, it's a boy.
    • Boy
  • Maternal Grandmother:  If the maternal grandmother has gray hair it's a boy; if she doesn't (whether it's natural or not) it's a girl.
    • Girl
  • Sum of Mothers Age + The Month Conceived: Odd = Girl; Even = Boy
    • Girl
  • Hair On Legs: If the hair on your legs grows faster, it's a boy; if it stays the same or stops it's a girl
    • Boy
  • Carrying: If you're carrying low and all in front, it's a boy; high and wide, it's a girl.
    • Boy (Though I'm showing more than I'd like it seems to be all in front and low)
  • Feet:  If they're colder than usual it's a boy; normal or warmer, it's a girl.
    • Boy
  • Morning Sickness: If you had it, it's a girl; if you didn't, it's a boy.
    • Girl

Still hard to believe that we are now 1/3 done!  We are moving into the 2nd trimester excited for next week's doctor appointment as well as the rest of the pregnancy.  Here's to hoping I can keep the hormones in check! :)
